Meet the People Behind HōttoCare

Our Story

Why we created HōttoCare

Families navigating dementia often face overwhelming decisions, fragmented care systems, and a lack of coordinated support. HōttoCare was created to provide the guidance, education, and ongoing support families need throughout the dementia journey.

Our founder, Dr. Yumi Taylor, spent years caring for older adults across hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, home visits, nursing homes, free clinics, and primary care practices. Through those experiences, she saw firsthand how difficult it was for families to coordinate care and access support.

After additional training at Stanford and healthcare innovation leadership at Sutter Health, she founded HōttoCare to build a more connected model of dementia care — one that supports not only the person living with dementia, but also the family caregivers supporting them every day.

"We started HōttoCare to fill critical gaps in homebound care—but we needed a sustainable model. When Medicare's GUIDE program launched, it was our 'Eureka!' moment. Finally, a solution that values dementia caregivers and makes financial sense for providers. We knew this was the future of care."

"When I heard what HōttoCare was building, I came out of retirement to support this. It's such a joy working for an organization that is filling a major gap in healthcare and building the service in such an agile and collaborative way."

Partner Testimonial

What our partners say about working with HōttoCare.

A patient has been under my care at the Stanford Center for Memory Disorders since June 2024 and has a diagnosis of Lewy-body dementia (LBD). Since starting services with HōttoCare, his care partner has noticed a positive outcome and improvement in his mood and well-being. I encourage his continued participation in this program and support their request for additional hours each week.
